The history of this castle probably started in the 12th century as a Romanesque stronghold. The castle got its current Neo-Renaissance form at the end of the 19th century. The owner, count Sylva Tarrouca, supervised the reconstruction of the castle and its surroundings. He founded a large landscape park with many precious species, which today belongs to the Botanical institute of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic. The park includes many ponds and romantic buildings.
